In the last 25+ years, the Greatwood Gators have had a developmental coaching program in place that has allowed swimmers to serve their team as both volunteers and then paid coaches. The ultimate goal of the program is to promote our Head Coach from within the ranks of those loyal and service-minded swimmers. We are proud of the fact that our coaches in the last fifteen years have all been Gator swimmers and have lead their team to success.
Coach Emma will graduate in May from Logos Preparatory Academy and will attend Texas A&M University majoring in Human Resource Development with a minor in psychology. Emma swam on the Logos varsity swim team for two years. Emma competed at regionals and state both years in different events. In addition, Emma played varsity volleyball for all four years of her high school career. Emma was also a part of NHS, volunteered through a program called Youth in Philanthropy, and served non-profits. Emma has worked with children for many years now. Coach Emma has been on the Gators swim team since she was 4 years old and has been volunteering as a crew member since 8th grade before becoming an assistant coach this year. Coach Emma can't wait for her first season as a coach and the years to come!
Coach Maddie will graduate in May from George Ranch High School and will attend Texas A&M University to major in business. Maddie swam with the varsity swim team at George Ranch and was goalie for the varsity water polo team. While at George Ranch, she also played varsity basketball for three years, was a member of NHS, Student Council, and several other clubs. Coach Maddie has been a Greatwood Gator since she moved to Texas at 8 years old. She was a volunteer crew member for four years and 2021 Gator of the Year before she became an Assistant Coach this year. Coach Maddie could not be more excited to coach her first season this summer!
Gator Crew
The Greatwood Gators swim team has a proud tradition of nurturing their swimmers to become team coaches. We do this through our comprehensive Crew training program. Swimmers who have finished (or are finishing) the 8th grade can join Crew. As Crew members, they have the opportunity to:
- provide instruction and encouragement for swimmers on the Gators swim team
- provide an opportunity for older Greatwood Swimmer(s) to demonstrate leadership
- gain coaching experience for possible future employment with the team
- earn service credit hours for required organizations
